Please help us to protect Glaslyn & Hafren

Just opposite the Star Inn, beyond the ridge you can see, is a beautiful area of the Cambrian Mountains stretching to the Hafren Forst one way and across to Glaslyn Nature Reserve and the Plumlumon mountain range the other way. Pumlumon is the highest mountain in mid-Wales. The area is rich in rare birds, mammals, flowers and mosses. In summer the air is full of skylarks singing. The long distance footpath, Glyndwr’s Way runs across it. There are ancient burial chambers, a Roman fort and, as a dark sky area, it is one of the best places to see the night sky.

Bute Energy have proposed to build a massive wind farm on this precious upland area with 26 220m high turbines set in concrete bases, each one half the size of a football pitch. There would be roads criss-crossing the peat bog as well as an electricity substation and poles to take the electricity away.

Protect Glaslyn & Hafren is a local group set up to campaign against and defeat the proposal.

We believe there is a climate crisis and this needs addressing urgently but bull-dozing precious landscape, endangering wildlife, destroying lives and homes with irreversible effects on the environment is not the way to do it. This is simply the wrong development in the wrong location.

If you love what you have seen in the local area and want to help us protect this place of beauty and tranquillity, please join our campaign. You can find more information at www.stopbute.energy.
